    Hey Everyone,
I was looking into getting a Purple Tang for my 120g Reef and i have been having a hard time locating one thats on the smaller side. Does anyone know when is a good time of the year to look for one and where would be a good place to look for a quality PT.
Would my best bet to be to talk to one of my lfs to keep an eye out for one when they go do their p/u's or would an online source be best?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got my purple tang from divers den online. He came around 3 and half inches. Year and half later he's about 5". Great fish. But try to add it last if possible.

Yes Definetely, I've heard stories and he is the last to be added. He will definetely be the focal point and the star of my water show.

May places offer them at varying prices. I prefer my divers den fish, Conditioned a bit more then usual from online vendors. So...

Purple Tangs are becoming hard to come by...the prices for them are going up while they are getting smaller. There is something going on with exporting from the Red Sea area...either FedEx pulled out or there's something with the export laws right now...I bought one 2 years ago for $90 and he was about 3" then...the same LFS has 2 now for $175 each and a lot smaller! Mine is still doing well with some nice deep coloring...he was not the last added...my blue jaw was :) He's a great fish, funny some times but just a great fish. I brought him and a Hippo Tang home on the same day. Good luck on your search...

Yes, they are having a shipping issue out of that region. they are becoming hard to find that is why you see them divers den as they only get on in at a time. I have kept a purple tang for hte last 5 years. Great fish, Easy to care for and meaner than one woudl expect. the one I have now is about 5-6" long and is a PITA. went up against a 10" sohal. to establish himself in the tank when I added him. he went after a newly added butterfly but that is about it. we call him Enforcer and the Sohal is Boss. I would love to replace this one with a smaller specimen, but they are indeed hard to find. the one from my previous tank just went up for sale and was nabbed in a heartbeat. when this one kicks it, or gets traded, I hope to get that one back. I let it go for $50 last year. it was a 3" specimen.
