What size tank do you have for it and how long has it been set up? What other fish will it be in there with it? If you can properly care for it and want it, then get it.

I would say go for it as long as your tank is set up for one (rockwork, params). Be prepared to feed it though, tangs eat a ton. Instead of the dried seaweed products, I like to use raw broccoli. The only thing I would really question is knowing it was sick.

I was looking into getting a purple tang, but decided against it for now because they can get fairly large (8-9 in) and from what I've read it's recommended that they are in a least a 100 gal tank or larger.

If you do get it let us know how it goes, my wife and I just fell in love with one at our lfs and they are beautiful fish.

    Best of luck..

Not only lots of rocks, but make sure you have at least a couple caves/hidey-holes that are big enough for it to chill inside of. If you got all of that, and like the fish, and don't plan on adding a similar tang (like a yellow tang), I say go for it. They do recommend larger tanks, but I bet it'll be fine in a 75.

Yea I have alot of caves. I know some say to have atleast a 6ft tank. But this is going to be the last fish to my tank. So I have two little chromis, pair of clowns, then the purple tang then thats it for fish

I have a yellow tang that will get to 8" eventually. I originally had it in a 75g tank. I say get it. If it was sick awhile back and got better, that, to me, is a good sign. It's immune system is good. Tangs are notorious for ich, so just be on guard, and acclimate him slowly. You need to feed them a mixed diet heavy on the veggies. I feed mine a frozen mix of veggies/meat, two different kinds of flakes and seaweed (both purple and green). I alternate what I feed the tank, because the other fish have their needs also. But you will get an idea of how it is doing just by looking at him. If he is plump, then you are doing well.

So, you have my vote to get it. If (or when) you do, I want to see pics.

    Peace.......John.

Purple tangs are bullies! And by the looks of it, you dont have many fish in such a big tank and will want more. I would wait and leave it till last.
