Okay, so we are starting over. Currently we have a watchman goby. I am very interested in the purple tang - other than cost ;), what are your opinions/experience with them?

Any help would be appreciated !

I have a small purple tang (about 2") and absolutely love it. It is a very beautiful addition to the tank. And it loves nori!!

I'm not familiar with how hardy they are. I really don't want to put anything in my tank that needs extra-special care on a daily basis - you know, I just want a regular fish.

Well just mind yourself, that if you underfeed and have LPS corals, more particular the brain corals, purple tangs have been known to pick at them (and some other LPS)

They are a great fish, very hardy, I would recommend getting one around the 3" marker, as they fit into aquarium life easier as to feedings and aggression.

Make sure this fish is the last fish you add as it can be a territorial beast. Mine was added in the middle but has been proven to be the boss, yet very passive. But most of my fish then again are Tangs so... yah know. They love Nori, Mine goes nuts for flake food from Oceans Nutrition (Prime Reef).

    Hi RedGambit,

What other fish do you have in your aquarium? Was your purple tang the first fish in?

Do all of your tangs get along? I thought it was difficult to keep more than 1 type of tang in a tank.
