Today I had the hood open to feed my fish as I was grabbing the food beside me, he started swimming & being acrobatic. Within a few seconds he flew over the overflow. I know it should be covered as I have the back of hood covered in bird netting. I just hadn't got a good way to mount the netting over overflow without being at an angle so he doesn't get caught in it. But as he was sitting in overflow, I was tring to figure how to get him out as I can't reach in with my hand or a net. I was kinda hoping he might just go up the tube & down into my sock & retrieve him there. This was about a 10 min span as I'm tryin to figure this out looking around. I look back into OF & I can't see him & think ok he's in the sock, but it's empty. So I'm frantically looking around & there he is in the tank again. Anyone have fish that jump in & out of overflow? Lol, hope he learned his lesson. But now I HAVE to get it covered.

Pull the overflow pipe from the bulk head for a couple seconds, that should suck him down. Be careful not to overflow the sump.

Lol thanks for sharing that. I haven't ha that experience but I did have a Dartfish swim into a mj1200 and I would have turned the pumps back on if I didn't see the tip of his tail for a split second before he made his way all the way up there.

The overflow pipe is on really tight & hard to turn, plus the fish is close to 5" long. But he did jump out on his own. Then 10 min later he jumped back in, so I waited knowing he can jump out on his own. Yea he jumped out again. I think he is just messin with me! Lol. But I'm in the process of building a new hood for tank. The insides of old one are rotting away & I get my new reef breeders photon light this week. I want my light mounted on top of hood but my lid hinges in middle. But I got a few sumps I'm gonna cut one up for the acrylic and make a permenant wall with a ton of holes for air to cover the gap behind good. I'll have to make one to cover overflow also. The netting works but I don't want him to get caught in the net.
