purple up question

Well, here is something very interesting. I had massive coralline growth for about 9 months. The coralline completely took over the tank, pink, green, purple, etc....About a month ago i started to notice a die off. I checked all of my parameters, and they looked good, ca 450, dkh 10.8, mg 1300..So, I decided to just add about one capful of purple up that I had lieing around, and sure enough within a week a very bright pink coralline started to grow all over the tank...

 

you know baxter that's pretty confusing. the only thing I can think of on that is the purple up gave your mag a little boost. Iodine may have been low too.

 

I would let nature take its course. Coraline will consume your tank in due time provided your water params are in check.

I've never been a great fan of additives to speed things up.

I would (and have) taken the path of letting nature run her course and everything good will come in due time. Patience is the key in SW. I don't know enough about Purple Up (never used it) to knock it, this is just my theory on everything in my tank, add what is needed and let the rest go with time. Some people that have stated they love it have good looking tanks, but some people that don't use it have good looking tanks also. Personal preference I guess!

You need to tell hubby to slow down, only bad things and bank account drains happen quick in SW, and I think most everyone can agree on that!
