I found a few threads on other forums via google search. Seems 50/50 overall in opinions. I surmise that a well maintained/balanced system will do the work for you. I conclude purple up an unnecessary additive.

Good for you! IMO purple up replaces hard work and patience. If you don't have those 2 things you might as well throw the tank out now!

I have to hand it to the people who make purple up. The name and marketing is genius. It's marketed toward newbs like myself that want purple and fall for the pitch. I say it's unecessary and/or not worth the price tag. Keep your params proper by other cheaper means

well most people feel it is unessecary to use and as for as i know or can see well i should say cant really tell if it contributed to the coraline growth i have. But i like it because its kind of like i use it for the calcium and the iodine. I doesnt exactly start your coraline growth however it does encourage the growth of what you do have. However mother nature does do the same thing. Also it has some iodine in it which is also good if monitored. Also it contains stontium and magnesium which as far as I know get deplenished real fast in a closed system there are also supplements that have more concentrated version of the 2 but I look at it this way for purple up you can have a good amount of of concentrated chemicals and always dose a strong concentrated amount or you can have a sort of say watered down dose and dose constantly its all really a a choice if you ask me I use it and keep an eye on all my levels it may not work for making coraline pop out of no where but your definatley getting a small amount of elements you do need in your system summed up pretty much a small dose of a couple suppliments you need to maintain

Interesting. I will consider this for the remainder of the product.

Nay. I keep my dKh around 12 to 15, my Ca around 460 and my Mg around 1550. My coraline is doing well. Very well.
