What do you guys think about purple up,I just got it since I have a very new tank and been using it,the only thing I dislike is it makes the tank cloudy for a few seconds, the lady at the lfs said it's good for growing healthy alegae and destroying bad alegae types

Let me know what you think and any experiences yu had with it.

Purple Up is mainly a calcium addative. Yes it is effective but there are also other calcium additives that give you more per bottle at a cheaper or equal price. I'm not bad mouthing it, I bought it when I was just starting too and yes I do feel it is effective, just probably not the most effective way.

I made the mistake of using purple-up with my first reef tank (LFS guy said I needed it). I stopped after just a couple of months. The problem I had is that it (the calcium, I presume) precipitates out of the water, clogging filters and pumps. I've learned since that one needs to test their water to determine what and how much to dose rather than just using miracle snake-oil products per their "this much per day" directions.

    +1 ^^^^^

There are a few other things in there besides calcium, and none of which you can test for.
If you have a new tank, you obviously don't need to be dosing 2 part for alk, mag, cal yet. So while your tank doesnt have a lot of demand on these because of the lack of corals etc. your water changes will provide all the calcium and trace elements you will need as long as it is a qaulity salt mix, in order to get coraline growth.

+2 The problem with products such as these since they don't list the ingredients (and you probably couldn't test the levels of most of them)so how could you possibly know how much to dose? Just stick to maintaining your Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium levels and your corailine will grow.;)

It hasn't done anything for my tank... so I stopped using it and my calcium level is around 400..
