A guy at a LFS told me that if I put a needle into the mouth of a mushroom or ricordea, it will make it split. Something about having the mouth move around the needle and making another one. Would that work? I would kind of rather it split on its own, but if it doesn't hurt the coral.

it may entice it to split or it may just heal over... If you wanna frag the ricodea you can cut it with an exacto knife or even a scissor. Just be sure to cut through the center of the mouth so both pieces have a piece of the mouth. You can frag them without including a piece of the mouth but the time for it to heal is much longer and the success rate is also smaller.

Thanks guys. One of my Ricordea appears to have three mouthes, does this mean it's getting ready to split?

You can also dissect them through the mouth in to 1/4's and they will do as anemones do be four :) of simple cut them in to half right through the mouth. Just use a sharp blade like a hobby knife or box cuter or a really sharp pocket knife watch your eyes as they will sometimes squirt and you won't like the after effects of that. Burning swelling red sticky for a few days to a week.. Not fun
