i believe the fitting is called a bushing or reducer. it took me the better part of half an hour in the plumbing aisle at home depot to get everything to fit together properly. good luck trying to order online!

ha! so you believe it would be best to just take a trip to homedepot? YA, I couldn't be PVC piping online, so I was just going to go with vinyl tubing. Just trying to get everything to fit with that was a headache. I would like to just try to fit everything at the store and I guess that would work at home depot. i guess I should plan a trip soon.

i tried to go all pvc with my return, but i had to use vinyl for one stretch. it really didn't make things that much easier, since it's not as flexible as you'd hope. but i would definitely take some time mocking the return up in the plumbing aisle.

Just use a slip bushing into a fitting or if its make thread just get the thread 1/2 mip x 3/4 slip adaptor Lowes or any plumbing supply house and most hardware store would have them..:
A bushing slips in to say a 3/4 fitting then bushings the size down to 1/2 a reducer is a fitting with the proper hubs on each side so you won't need a bushing and then there are reducing male and F.male adapter they are different they are called by the thread x hub size a 1/2 x 3/4 Male adaptor is thread x slip pipe

Just a quick response to all of the 3/4" suggestions. If you go with 1/2 IPS PVC you will have almost the exact same internal dimension for your pipe. IPS PVC (or SCH200) is the thin walled pipe. Unlike SCH40 which is rated at 600 PSI, IPS PVC is rated at 200 PSI. Anyone here running pumps at 200 PSI? That's all I wanted to say. If you take a look at my new sump/fuge/frag tank you will see I went a little hog-wild with PVC.

OH, one more thing: use the glue called Red Hot Blue (or something like that). It is a one part glue instead of two part. Youe still have to cover both pieces, but it is easier with only one container to deal with. It will set within a minute and ready for water in an hour.

if you picked up a pair of pvc cutters, just bring them along next time and cut the 10 foot section in half...or just hang the dang thing out the window...you're in MIAMI, man...

    Hi Monkey,

The glue I use is called "Red Hot Blue Glue" by Christy's. It does the same thing as the two separate part stuff but with only one container.
And, as fore the length, do what Pisces said. Home Depot should actually have a saw sitting in the aisle. If you don't have PVC cutters, hand held tree trimmers also work well for tube up to 3/4".
One final reminder to get the "Quick Disconnect Union" for your return line along with a one-way valve. The quick disconnect is SO much easier to use if you need to remove the pump.
