lookin good! just make sure you come up with a failsafe plan just in case the overflow stops flowing and your filter keeps pumping water in the DT. maybe you can raise your canister's intake hose high enough to where it will stop pumping until it fills back up with water. You can invest in a lifter pump to put on that check valve.

I marked the max water level on my sump so i know what my limit is.

Yep I know what ya mean. With my 30 gallon, there wasn't much room for a sump in the stand. It barely fit a standard ten gallon.

Glad to see it ended up being the check valve. Thats what i kind of figured it would be. Did you end up putting a hole in the cap for the breather?

Is it loud? Mine always made a really annoying gurgling sound.

As far as a PVC HOB DIY overflow, check out the one near the end of my 3 min. video of my DT in my sig. It's high flow and massive, never losses siphon. I know never say never. It has not yet lost siphon.

I dunno, for this application, cheap and effective, I still like my no siphon overflow. It's a piece of PVC with a slit cut in it, and and end cap. That's it. This one is on my frag tank.

There are three on the reef sump here.

Never had a problem with them. Can't get any cheaper.
