One week ago I added a pygmy angel to my tank which only housed a bi-color blenny. The blenny and angel really eyed each other, circling, and looking very suspicious but I never witnessed any attacks. THEN, about 3 days later I found my blenny on the ground - jumped out of the tank!

So today, I buy a maroon gold striped clown, small, and put him in the tank. The angel immediately started chasing and nipping at him. The poor clown will be minding his own business on one side of the tank and the angel will dart out of the rocks, nip and chase, then go back into the rocks. How long should I let this go on before I take the pygmy angel back??? Will this stop?? When no other fish is in the tank the pygmy barely comes out of the rock.

I'm not going to keep the angel if he'll terrorize any other fish!

    Thanks for your input.

Tank size - 34 gal cube, plenty of rock, but the clownfish doesn't seem to try to hide to get away from the angel.

There isn't any concern for compatibility issues between those 2 fish. It will eventually subside. You can try re-arranging the rockwork slighty if it will make you feel better. I would just shut the lights off and have em' call it a night.

Yeah, the maroon clown will fight back once he gets settled. He'll eventually probably work his way up to boss hog.

Thanks. I'll try to stay calm about this and just keep an eye on things.

I've heard that angels are very territorial and should be added last in the tank. I'm not exactly sure if that's true or not, but I would give the maroon a little time. It should be one dominating the tank sooner or later.

+1. Given time that maroon clown will have had enough and will put the angel in its place. A little bit of "territorial disputes" is normal when adding a new fish.
    Sorry about the blenny
