I have a question that's probably obvious, but I'm just wondering what you all think/know. Sometimes my red scooter male's coloring gets super intense - his face turns purple, his mouth bright red, and he gets neon blue spots on the side of his head.

It happens every once in awhile and stays like that for a few minutes, and then his coloring goes back to normal. Is it a mating thing, feeding response, etc.?

    Thanks :)

that sounds cool KC. I'm thinking it's either a mating thing or intimidation thing. Do his fins flare up also? Would love to see pics, but I'm sure it's tough to catch, but very cool

His fins weren't flaring when I caught it last time, but he could have flared them before I saw. But I have seen him flare his fins before, and he doesn't change colors.

I'm having a hard time finding a pattern to the color change. It is very cool though!

Sweet!! I love to see a pic of that Kacy. I would think it's an intimidation thing. What else is in the tank with him?

The male's face in the photos aren't as dark as mine gets, but the photos do show the blue spots! So maybe he's displaying for the female. Thanks for the link!

    Thanks!
