    Just an HOB filter like a bio wheel or hagen aquaclear. I use aquaclear so I can take out the carbon.

    The Aquaclears work great since they use a nice simple foam block which can be kept in your sump so it it charged with bacteria all the time. Keep spare filter foams and throw them away after each use so you don't contaminate anything.
