Our new tank has recently finished cycling. We added 10 turbos & 10 blue-leg crabs about 5 days ago.

We will be adding 20 - 30 lbs new cured live rock in about 2-3 weeks.

My question is this: Would it be okay to go ahead & purchase a fish now & put him in a QT & then add him to the DT a few days after adding the new LR?

    Thanks!

i wouldn't you have no way of knowing when your tank will restablise after adding new live rock. thats the safe answer

the unsafe answer. is you could probably get away with it, but i wouldn't recommend that answer

I do agree with sostoudt in that you won't know for how long you will have to have the fish in the qt for, but I also think that it's a good way to balance the time. If you already have a qt up and running, then I don't see a big problem leaving him in the qt for a few weeks. You are supposed to quarantine a fish for 4-6 weeks to do it properly. However, if you have a small qt, I don't like to leave bigger fish or fish that need room, tangs, angles etc, or jumpers in there for that long, they tend to get "depressed" in my experience. I would also wait until your water tells you its ok to add the fish. good luck!
