Not sure if this is the appropriate section to put this in sorry if it isn't. I had an outbreak of ich in my DT so I setup my 10 gallon as a at tank. It just has some pieces of PVC inside of it a small heater and a hob filter with carbon removed. I'm using cupramine to treat the ich andim very happy with the results. My only problem is my ammonia and nitrites (no2) are somewhat high. My pH is around 8.0. If I don't domwnwater change about every 3-4 days my ammonia ites and ates shoot up. What should I do to keep my parameters in line? Just continue with water changes or what? I have about another 6 weeks to go before I'm moving them back to the DT.

Do you have some live rock in the QT? If not I would add some cured rock from the DT.
For temporary emergencies I keep some Ammolock on hand. Ammonia will burn their gills and nitrite is a poison which will stress them causing more ich.
What fish? and is the ich on the gills?

    Another 6 weeks?
6 weeks in Hospoital tank? What's the life cycle of ich again?

I'm keeping my DT fallow for 8 weeks to be sure the parasite is gone for good.

I'm keeping the levels in fairly good check with water changes every couple days. I'm just asking about this because I'm wondering if there is an better way to keep things in check besides water changes. There are no signs of ich on the fish anymore after about 10 days of copper dosing. The fish are acting normal again and are eating well. There only in the hospital tank still because I want to keep my DT fallow for 8 weeks to be sure the parasite is long gone.

How many fish are we talking about here? I strongly recommend getting a sponge filter in there asap. It provides a lot of surface area for bacteria. Otherwise, just keep up with water changes and make sure to adjust copper accordingly to keep it at 0.5.

I got a blue green chromis, 2 clowns, and a Fiji damsel. And I'm using the seachem copper test kit with the cupramine. It usually drops down to 0.3 after a water change but I dose as needed after to bring it back to 0.5. I'm very happy with this product I've gone from thing king I'm going to lose all my fish to a happy hobbyist again. All the fish are eating well and acting like themselves again.
