Hang on back filter, let the filter sponge sit in your dt until you need it then put that on your QT filter.

Pvc pipe for fish to hide in

    Heater

Something to circulate water or agitate the surface

Basically what Devin said. Get yourself a sponge filter (here is an example), driven by a small air pump and run that in your sump of your DT (if you have a sump, otherwise in your DT itself).

For the QT, the minimum you should have is a heater, small powerhead (like a Hydor pico), some PVC piping (sized appropriately for the fish), a light (just for viewing the fish to make sure it is eating and healthy), and a cover to keep the fish from jumping. A HOB filter would be a bonus to give some extra water volume, circulation, and filtration.

Anyways, keep the sponge filter running until you set your QT up. Then, you can just fill the tank with new saltwater, get it up to temp, move the sponge filter and air pump over to the QT. The tank should be ready to have a fish put in at this point. But only one fish (and hopefully a smaller one). When I get new fish, I do not feed for at least the first 24 hours. This will help give time for the bacteria to build up before it needs to process food & waste.

Good advice so far but it sounds more like the O.P. wants a Hospital tank.:-/ The setup is basically the same but if your DT is infected by a parasite and/or disease taking out the few that show visible signs of stress will do nothing but stress the fish. Can you be more specific about what you are trying to accomplish?
