So, I have all my fish in a QT tank right now. I put in a sponge from the DT, and I'm going to put in another one (I cut the bigger stock RSM250 sponge into 3 slices, as it's really hard to clean the whole thing well, and it works just as well as one piece).

However, since this is all of my fish, I wanted to be prepared in case ammonia does show up in any significant quantity. I have a ~12g water change prepared for the ~29 breeder the fish are in now, but I would really like to know: has anyone used Amquel, Ammolock, or any other ammonia neutralizer before?

in a pinch they work, although i don't know that I'd recommend long term use. The one thing to note is most of them don't remove the ammonia they just make it non-toxic so it still shows on a ammonia test. A good old fashion water change is the best solution.

Yeah, I was really wondering in case I did a water cahnge and it turned out to be either not enough to significantly lower levels, or it spiked again too quickly, that I could use it to hold over for another water change. I only have the 15g rubbermaid, plus a small amount of water in jugs. I'd have to run the RO unit for quite a while to get 12g again, as I have a 24GPD unit.
