    OK,
So I know what a Hospital tank should look like.
I am tearing down my 10 gal Hospital tank and setting up a 20 from parts i have.

Difference between adding a new fish and treating a sick fish.

So if it is a QT wouldnt you want it to have all the bells and whistles ?
I know that is basically making it a 20gal nano, but WTH, I have all the parts.

I am looking to add substrate, a good light, a combo Via Aqua skimmer with filter, UV and PS, ect.

So it will be a nano after all, but WTH. In the event of adding medicine and killing the bio filter, it will grow back so whats the difference I say.

    Just ranting..

You don't want subtrate in a QT. Sounds like you just wanna set-up another tank huh?

    Maybe...
But hey, if it is a QT, not hospital, " A place to acclimate and make sure they are disease free" Whats wrong with substrate ? Would your new adds be happier..

A QT tank should be bare bottom and no rock. That way no parasites can live in the rock and sand, it's more controlled environment. A hospital tank can have the rock sand for the fish to live in without the stress of competition from other fish while it heals. That's what I was told many years ago anyway.

Plus with no substrate it would be a lot easier to clean after you have a sick fish in it. Probably not worth it unless you want a nano?;D
