Im planning on ordering the last of the powerheads to get the flow I want this week. I currently have 1 K1 and a 600 gph return in my 40 gallon. Im considering either getting 4 K nano's to spread the flow out or 1 Ecotech MP10 for the wavemaking features. I want peoples opinion on which way I should go.

I don't think that an answer on your poll will actually give you what you need. Setting up flow via power heads can be a pretty individual scenario. My opinion, you will be better off with multiple ph's rather than one beast. One beast best suits closed loop systems...............

+1. And I really wouldn't title it as "quality vs quantity" in this case. Koralia's are decent units.

Indeed they are awesome little units. They just dont offer the flexibility of eco techs. Too bad I cant afford 4 eco's. I just wasnt sure what everyones opinion of add a few low flow units would be. I may just go with 3 K1's or possibly 2 K2's. This is the last expense I have for my reef and I want to do it right the first time.

    I have 2 K2's, 2 K1's, and 1 Knano.

The nano really is a soft flow... I use it to push water behind my rock wall.

the rest are used to get random flow that is highly adaptable as my coral stock gets more pieces and new areas need less/more flow. Can't really do that with one big unit.

It never ends but I can keep that illusion for now. How much flow is too much? Im starting to expand my mind to more options from looking at my tank. Think it would acually work better with a K1 K2 K3 and K nano plus my 600 gallon return. Does this sound like too much for a 40 gallon?

I am hoping my return and this modded maxi jet will be okay for my setup... I am shooting for a mix of flow.. so I can keep different corals like peredhril said.

Have you looked in to cheaper pumps mike? To save some cash possibly.

Ya Iv looked around a bit Im just a die hard Koralia fan. I think Im going to go with this plan:

    600 gph return
    1 400 gph K1
    1 600 gph K2
    1 850 gph K3
    1 250 gph K nano

If it seems like too much Ill set a couple of them opposite on my light cycle so there never all on.

Oh my phone is dead chris.

it's a bit on the high side at 67x turnover (feel free to double check my quick math)... but it all comes down to how you direct.

For example, my nano going across my back wall ... this just keeps me from having a long dead spot... not much impact in the turnover rate for the corals...

I'm running something like 52x turnover and I have mostly LPS and softies. If you're doing primarily SPS, then the 67x would probably be great!
