Ok so your supposed to cycle a quarantine tank just like a display tank. I want to just use 10 gallons from my display tank which is already established and then just do a water change on the display. My problem is I am displaying signs of ich. So my thought is that if i do just use the tank water I will only catch the free swimming ich which are in there vulnerable kill-able state. I will then immediately start dosing with copper which will kill all the ich. Am i correct or am I missing something? Just don't want to start up a contaminated quarantine tank haha.
    Thanks!

I think you got it. sounds fine to me.

also what you can do in addition or in place of is age a sponge filter (mesh filter pad) in your aquarium or sump for a couple of weeks (a few days will be ok too) and then just place that in you QT and let that cycle for a few days.

    Thanks fischkid.
Im sorry for my run on sentences haha. What are you confused on?
Are you trying to say copper will kill ich in quarantine tank?
I still haven't researched UV's but have been meaning to.

i'd refrain from copper personally. do you have immediate need of the QT?

if you can, i'd just leave the QT fish free for many weeks and let the ich run its course.

Wanted to treat the fish with copper in quarantine. Then let the display tank go fallow for 6 weeks to rid the ich. Ich caused my potter angel to die and don't really want to leave ich in my tank forever. What do you quarantine your fish with when you first get them?

what are you feeding your fish? with the proper diet the fish will be able to naturally fight off the affects of ich without the need to stress them out in a QT tank.

running a medication free tank is always the best option if possible. I guess it depends how severe your case of ich is in your DT and how fast you need to have a QT up and running for a fish. having a HOB UV in you QT would be great and would allow you to have a med free QT... as long as your willing to buy the UV.

I guess I jumped the gun talking about a QT before asking how the fish is doing. If he is still eating i would leave him be in the DT and just add garlic and vitamin additive to the food and feed. as long as they are eating and active they will most likely fight it off like a cold. if the ich spreads to lots of fish and they stop eating then move them to the QT.
Either way its not a bad idea to set up the QT w/ DT water just in case. I would go ahead and cycle it but not add medication until the time (maybe) comes where the fish are still deteriorating in the QT. make sense? sry for rant.

I have heard this but it does not rid your tank of ich. The only proper way to rid your tank is to go fallow for 6 weeks. I cant add any new fish and my current fish are very stressed. Any opinions?
