I have a 20 that I am upgrading to a 46 and I need to get a QT tank setup... Thinking of just using a 10 gallon tank with a small light and a small circ pump... any other suggestions? Just be used to make sure new corals are safe to put into the DT.

Are you going to dip the corals?

Yes, I am going to plan on dipping the corals prior to putting them in the display tank... In my freshwater days, I have purchased fish at swap meets and auctions who had diseases and nuked a tank... so I dont want to make the same mistake with my Saltwater tank. The tank has corals and such now, but they are all from a very well known local fish store who specializes in such things, so I never had a worry about putting them right into the tank after acclimation.

Typically it's the pest you have to deal with.

    1. Flatworms.
    2. Nudibranch.
    3. Some snails such as Pyramid and Sundial.
    4. Red Bugs.

    To name a few.

A good magnifying glass, q-tips, old softer tooth brush will come in handy.

A visual inspection goes a long ways if you know what to look for. All of the listed pest can come from even reputable distributors.

You may want a frag rack for coral placement.

Remember too that even though you've QT'd and dipped, some nudibranch eggs can withstand the dip.

I'd say two week minimum with a dip every three or four days to be safe. Then again I don't trust any coral :)
