Please describe your QT Tank. For example
Do you keep your tank set up all the time or just when you need it?
What do you use for filtration?
Do you use a bare bottom tank or do you use gravel?
Do you use water from your main tank or do you use new water? ......................... Thank You in Advance for your input ;)................................................. John

MY quarentuine tanks are the ones availible at work...hehehe.....but they are basic...on substrate...a hide of pvc.....and dim lighting with no extras. Size of the QT depends on the type of fish and size.

I just have a little 10 gl tank that I keep running all of the time. It has a couple of corals in it and some rock and cheato. However, If I were to do it over it would be larger at least 20 gls. 10 gls isn't very large especially if you are going to QT for 6 weeks and if you have fish that are of any size. I need to QT all 17 of my fish so I'm looking for an acrylic 5-55 that I can use. After that I shouldn't need anything more than my 10 since I will ALWAYS QT before I put ANYTHING in the tank.

The filters I'm using is just a little aqua clear filter that came with the tank.

I have a little ich going on primarily with my hippo tang and if one has it they all have it even though they may be immune to it. I'm changing out my sand bed in a couple of months and when I do I plan on doing the QT then. I'll QT the fish for 6 weeks and leave all of the coral in the main tank since the ich parasite only feeds off of fish flesh. By the time I put the fish back in the main tank the parasite will have cycled and starved to death =ich free tank.

My understanding is that as long as the parasite is in the water colum even though the fish don't show signs of Ich the next fish you put in there that is suseptable is likely to die form ich if not treated. The parasites breed everywhere until they find some tasty fish they like.

Just going by some articles I've read.

    Time for bed.
