QUARATINE;what does it consist of help??

    Hey all you reefers i need some help on setting up a QUARATINE tank! what does it reall consist of and best ways of setting it up??

    consists of setting up another tank that really doesnt have much of anything in it usually, it requires a filter skimmer and heater

    lol ok but do you add anything else to it for parasites and so on?? cause wouldnt the parasites just tranfer from the quaratine tank to the display tank??

    The idea of the QT is to kill the parasites and keep the fish in there until you are sure the life cycle is done and no more crop up. Some people keep their patient in there for up to a month just to make sure everything is good. And a QT is nothing fancy. Bare bones. Heater, little skimmer, 10g tank, some little decorations to let the fish hide behind. I wouldn't even any substrate on the bottom. Just bare glass. John.

    How To Set Up a Fish Quarantine Tank

    I set mine up according to this, except I added some crushed coral and rock. I just got white base rock to give the new inhabitants something to sit on/hide behind.

    I bought a light fixture for when I have corals in there, I start running the lights the same schedule as the LFS and then slowly adjust the lighting to match my display tank.

    This is a great post and "how to" guide to setting up a QT tank. Gives reasons why you need to do it, plus a step by step guide. This is how I have set mine up....
