I have a 15g tank QT setup for the past week. I had to hurry and setot up b/c I noticed ick on the clown. I had to put the tang and the coral beauty in there also as a precautiuon. I set this up in a couple of hours with r/o water and half from my tank. I have a bio wheel filter on the tank with only pvc in the tank. This is my first go at a QT. Im treating with copper meds and seems to be clearing up pretty good. Im going to leave the 3 fish in there for 4-6 weeks.

My question is my ammonia is always over 1.0 the next day even after I change 50% of the water. The ph reads 8.2 and the copper is 1.5. Salinity is at 1.20 and the temp is 80deg.

How can I keep the ammonia down. I have some live rock in the filter at this moment. The bio wheel really isnt doing much sense it was just setup. I have been using amqual ,but the readings are still high. Changing 50% ofthe water everyday is going to get old, but if thats what I have to do then Ill do it.

    Thanks

I'd recomend getting the other fish that aren't sick out of there. What's the point of quarantining if all the fish are in the same tank with the sick fish? Also, the quarantine tank is supposed to be cycled and ready to go. Exposing a sick fish to ammonia is not going to work in the long run. Just get the other two fish out and add a bottle of dr Tim's one and only to stop the cycle that your fish are creating. Hope this helps.

Keep all the fish in QT.Leave your display tank fallow for 8 weeks. Using an uncycled QT probably wasn't a good idea as this will probably do more harm then good. Keep an eye on Nirites as well as ammonia.Swims with fish if he doesn't QT all his fish then then the parasite will still remain in his system.(the other fish could be infected with NO visible signs.) He did the right thing by removing them all.

Keeping a tang exposed to high ammonia and possible nitrites in small quarantine with a sick fish?

Im going to leave them in as they look ok. I do agree that the uncycled tank is no the bes thing to do, but at last moment I didnt know what else to do. The DT is a reef tank so I cant treat them in there. Do you think a bigger QT tank will solve any of my proplems? I just dont want to kill them. I plan of leaving the DT empty for 6 more weeks. So the ick can die off.

Panicking in this hobby can sometimes get you into serious trouble. As long as your fish were still eating I would have left them alone until I had the QT tank ready for them.Hindsight is 20/20 though.;) Healthy fish can combat this parasite on there own as long as you can keep them eating.Heres a good link for you.

Should I put them back in the DT tank until the QT is ready?

Interesting idea. You could always do dr Tim's one and only.... And I hope my first post didn't come across hostile or anything.;)
