Ok Old timers hehe I could not find a thread on QT's but what are some of the benifits.... lets get informative for the new folks to help succeed and not fail in this hobby.... please chime in.......

things you can quarntine........ everything in my book!

    1. rock live and or dead aka (Curing) removing dead bac from shipping sponges will cause an ammonia spike in a tank along with bacteria. main reason to QT rock is to remove all unwanted hitch hikers. process would be salt water and also skimmer cheap small and a power head. now there is exceptions to the rule for lighting qt rock for algae issues you would want lights off. all would be in salt water and routine water changes. for all method. usually done separate from normal QT. in a tub of some sort...

    2. Fish to evaluate and rid diseases treatments..... Now depending on the fish size would depend on the QT tank size. all treatments should be away from Corals NOT in the Same tank. Treat all fish as if they have a Disease before adding to a qt. and evaluate from there. then after a few weeks. depending on the fish and health move to the DT.... this will save from hunting a dead fish in a display. and causing an out break of a disease in a tank and or a ammonia spike.. equipment needed would be tank, filter HOB, and or air stone w/ sponge filter, power head light small and cheap...

    3. coral's always dip the coral..... there are numerous dips out there some better then others I know tropic Marin makes a good one reef dip by sea chem does also. dipping corals will help reduce the chances of you getting I like to call a reef STD IE red bugs, Monti eating nudis, acro eating flat worms ect.... dipping corals I would say can reduce your risk by 99% from having any of these problems. corals I personally keep in a QT for 2 weeks to a month depending on size of the coral/ colony.... for this you will need a tank and a light small power head for flow and plenty of water changes, HOB filter rated double the size of the tank...

this is what I do with my tank and new tank mates I even dip My cheato lol I do a fresh water dip in a bucket. not sure if that helps or not but flat worms do love to hang out there.

this is what I do to help me keep my Piece of the ocean STD free.......

and never ever use anyone Else's water in your tank!!!!!!!!!

we had a meeting in my local reef club were Bob Ferner came and spoke he talked about QT's that day I took a couple tanks down and consolidated into one small one. Just so I can do this set up a couple QT's man has it helped especially trading corals and getting from online vendors. although most vendors take real good care of there corals and treat and what not. still you can get something as a wild coral, which is still widely avail. in the hobby.

i have a phrase I also like to use from someone here locally in Las Vegas but not too sure if I want to be banned lol but has to do with you a street walker and rubbermaids if you can read between the lines. you would do that would you?
