It appears i have a wonderful dino outbreak. i thought it was just Cyno (though i have been lucky to only deal with diatoms) But its driving me mad. clean the rocks vacuum everything out. let the water settle. change out the filter floss pad. repeat the next day. I know my bioload isnt massive. 2 true percs 2 skunk cleaners and one turbo snail (which i quickly pulled cause s/he is my baby) but its not going away. ive got chemi-pure elite, purigen, chaeto, skimming. and have been doing 5g water changes one a week like clock work. i have blacked out the tank for 4 days. pulled all the rock and scrubbed it. pulled any section of the sand bed that had any on it. let the water settle and changed the filter floss pad again. kept the PH at about 8.5 for the past couple days and it still is running rampant now that i have the lights on for about 4 hours now. i am tempted to just pull all the sand and LR scrub the tank. and put in new sand and LR just because this POS is driving me crazy. Input? if i have to pull everything i will atleast get the granulated sugar looking sand i want. and have a better aquascape but pretty sure my little inhabitants wouldnt like it. but nether would my wallet.

    (sorry for the novel)

You could try keeping your pH up above 8.1 for a month

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I suggest you stop the water changes.

    This is what I did.

Total black out for 4 days, and yhrn reduced lighting period after the 4th day, 3 hours for a couple days, 4 hours so so forth.
Take a turkey baster and clean all rock and corals each day, let settle and clean all sponges and/or floss.
    Maintain a good pH 24/7 I did 8.4.

If I saw that dino was taking hold again I repeated. I had sps/lps/soft corals, at the time the soft corals especially the zoanthids were most affected by the dino, not the treatment.

I battled Dino for 3 months, chemipure and purigen had no affect.

Please post an image of the algae if the issue continues.

    Good luck

after the black out and keeping up with the lower lighting schedule it seems like its disappearing, but i still do catch a peak of some on rocks or strings from the glass. sucking out the ones on the glass with a turkey baster and taking a tooth brush and a plastic cup to try and catch what i brush off. i just hope i am not gonna relapse >.<
