I just order 2 Giesemann Midday Sun 6000k bulbs to go with my 2 antics. I like the crisp white look more than the blue. My question is are the 6000k bulbs going to cause me algae problems being that low in the spectrum? I dont need any algae growth increase.

it will probably look like yellow and blue. 10,000k is probably crisp white to most, I would have just gotten all those.

But I guess your hoping the low and high kelvin cancel out to give you something in the middle.... of course it would also be cool if they mix and make green like paint :D

not too much if your water is good.

To our eyes, 6k is really a yellowish white. 10k is more balanced with a bit less red and a bit more blue to make it look real clear to our eyes. Your tank will probably have a slight yellowish/green hue to the rocks and an icy blue to the water

I think Dingo's color description will be close and they should not create algae issues. You may have some colors fade and some corals may brown from the yellow spectrum.

You know, funny the question came up....I basically have like questions since I changed out old bulbs on my Current 4 X T5 fixture. I replaced with Giesmann 54w mostly in the yellow spectrum 2-6500K, an Actinic Plus & a Blue Actinic.....something like that. Those are the only new bulbs I had here at home. Anyway, like I said, I didn't like the look. Rather than drive all the way to San Diego for better or different bulbs, I checked the local PetCo. Low & behold they had an Actinic 420 & a 10K "Sun" bulb. I figured this would add some color. I got home and changed out the 2-6500K T5's and replaced with these two from PetCo. Loved the color, but I guess my corals didn't. That was last Friday. Even though the corals were looking very "fluorescent" at first, they are a little shriveled now. Not all of them but most noticable on my Bleeding Apple. One small edge was sorta bleaching, just barely.

To acclimate, I haven't had both blue/yellow on at the same time for longer than 3hrs. The blue up to 6 or 7 hours maybe. Everything was so good until those last 2 blue bulbs from PetCo.....don't know. I was so disgusted, I did a small water change and just turned all the lights off. Who knows what I'll find when I get home.

???ANYONE???????? :( :(

It sounds like the new bulbs were much more powerful then the old ones and you didn't light acclimate them enough.

Yeah thanks GM. It was not just coincidence because I've never had this kinda problem, even with the "Hair Algae of Mass Destruction" outbreak period this tank went through. Mostly all corals were still holding their pigments well except for the Apple. Dang, I just hope it bounces back!! I didn't even wanna look this morning.

    Thanks!

Yeah...."Live & Learn" I guess? I lost the Bleeding Apple too. It was starting to look better, getting puffy on one side yesterday when I got home from work, but this morning, it seemed to have "sediment" on it. I picked the piece up and shook it a little and the one bleached side kinda just exploded & all this necrotic tissue just fell away from the skeleton...like 1/3 of the piece. If it isn't totally gone this afternoon, I may try fragging off that part.
I saved those 6500K's. Just put them back in the sleeves from the new bulbs. Just change them out for what you like...AND BE CAREFUL WITH ACCLIMATION!!!
