I have had off and on brown algae issues. Did a blackout for 6 days and it all went away for a good few weeks, now its back again. Mostly on the sand. Do you think my REALLY fine grain sand is contributing to this problem at all? Its the finest grain ive seen. The only other option I have brought up before is my water source which is not RO/DI.

Anyone have similar issues with the majority of brown algae growing on your sand bed?

It's your source of water. I have sugar sized sand and everything stays on top.

Definitely needs to be RO/DI. Your phosphates will go through the roof with tap water!!

Thanks for the quick responses. Is the water you buy at petco/petsmart RO/DI??? I dont have the money to invest in an RO/DI Unit at the moment.

do you have a local fish saltwater fish store?

They sell RO water at grocery stores too, However a fish store will let you fill up 5 gallon buckets and I would trust them more to change filters.

the closest fish store that sells water to me is a good 30 minutes at least away, so its kind of a pain to get it.
