OHHHHHH once you mix it, you have a week before its starts to lose its effectiveness.

It is best to use it as fast as you can to avoid it becomming contaminated by not being sealed properly, also the calcium will precipitate quickly.
It is best to dose it at night as well with the addition of vinegar(acetic acid) as this will lower the pH value of the kalkwasser and increase the percentage of calcium that will be administered to your water!

If you are able to mix it with a pump and keep it closed up then it will last until it all dissolves away. I turn my pump on twice a day for an hour then let it sit for 1.5 hrs before I let makeup water run through the reactor. Except for mixing my kalk reactor is on 24/7. I usually add 3 tablespoons every 8 days to keep things where I wan them.

I ask about the kalk because I am attempting the following with kalkwasser: I bought a 10 gal tank, auto topoff system A.T.O, and a quite one pump 280gph. I usually get 1/2 to 3/4 of evap a day, so roughly about 5 -6 gal a week. I want to mix about 6 -8 gal of kalkwasser and put it in the 10 gal tank weekly so that I don't have to keep on topping off daily. I am trying to make it easier on myself. I am setting my sensor in my sump about a 1/4 of an inch below my water line, so that when evaporation occurs the auto topoff will kick in and pump the kalk into my sump. Will that keep my calcium at stable levels? I was told that kalk with precipitate or lose it's calcium potency as time passes? What are your thought on what I want to do, thanks everyone for your opininons.

The stability issue regarding calcium levels will have alot to do with the population of inverts, hermatypic corals and other life forms that require calcium for proper health. The more coralline algae, Clams, stony corals that you have especially, will require you to add more calcium than someone that has a fish only tank for instance.
