I would have to agree there, why would you turn it off?Even being practically meaningless it's still kinda fun.

^ ditto. Karma showers are pretty often in here..

Actually i do believe karma does say something about about a persons likeability and is fun,but i agree on level of expertise, but that would be very hard as you could have a person join today thats a 30 year expert in reef keeping and could be one of biggest assets to this site, but starting a 1 k,no one would know it.So i still see it pretty much as just for fun.

You can still add to their karma, disabling karma only hides the comments in the box on the user's profile page...

Not trying the jack the thread here at all, but doesnt it kinda seem that recently karma has been handed out more willingly? I remember when I first became a member of this site I was excited to have a high post to karma ratio. Maybe because I was trying to be a good member and give advice and my opinion to those who asked, but recently it seems like it gets thrown around much easier than before. Not saying it is a good or bad thing, but it seemed like a reward for giving good advice before, now I get it for just complimenting people on their tanks and ideas. As a member of 3reef isnt that what Im supposed to be doing anyway? lol It just seems less relevant as far as expertise goes than when I first became a member is what Im trying to say.

Karma is just for fun and is not a reflection of experience. There are numerous threads on karma. This is also a section of the FAQ on karma. Due to the number of rehashes every couple weeks. I tend to close these now. Since the original question is covered - this is closed.
