I am looking at buying 2 of the cheaper ebay LEDs and one uses Epistar LEDs with the blue spectrum being 440-460 and white being 8-10k

The other doesn't list the type of LED but the spectrums are 460-470 and 12-14k (this is the Taotronic fixture that many people have talked about) Can someone explain the difference to me as far as what color combination is better etc?

well the epistar leds you mentioned i believe were also used by nano tuners when they were running. the other is most likely a mass produced generic led.

I would go with the epistar one just because i know they are decent.

If you look there isnt many companies that even make a 10-12k led. Many leds are simply a blue led with phosphor added to it to give it a color. I would be wary of this coming from a place that provides no info on the leds themselves.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1334284657.320593.jpg on the left is 50/50 white blue on the right is 100% Cree cool white which I believe is about 7k. So on the left were prob at 15k! Basically the lower the k the more yellow, then middle more white, the the higher ya go more blue! I believe!

Very true! One of the most important things in your tank is light. I would never go cheap when it comes to that.

    Rapid is very reasonably priced..

Cool! Thanks for the picture. So, it looks to me like I like the one on the left more, so I should shoot for higher....in the 14k range
