Hello again. More questions about anemones in general:

I have a Sebae or LTA, not positive on the ID at this point. See it here and tell me what you think.

My question is this. Do anemones shrink down when you turn off the lights? Is this normal? Also I have notices some areas of it looking not that great at times. Like its not inflated around certain edges sometimes. When this happens that edge seems to curl up or form a fold. I also noticed the clown paying special attention to this area like she is trying to help it or annoy it not sure which. I have it under 250 watt halides and the temp is 80. Do I need to worry about burning this anemone like I would a coral? Is 8 hours under the lights too much or not enough? If you are sure about any of these things please do help me.

Many thanks, You all have been great.

Jay, looks like a sebae to me, although it might be a gigantic condylactis anemone. You are also providing sufficient light; 8 hours is ok. Do you run moonlights? If you dont, the anemone will shrink up due to the darkness, if you are running moonlights, he will have to get use to them although mine would expand when he sensed the moonlights as if to try to catch any food passerby. ;D

Thanks Rick. Anybody else please chime in. Do the Condys come that big? It is whiteish/brown. Its not expanding quite as large as it was the first 2 days I got it. Perhaps it was really hungary for light from being in a 5 gallon tank with only actinic lights and a heater for 3 or 4 days till I bought it from the guy. It came with the tank he bought and he didnot want it so it sat in that small tank till I bought it.

Which tank is the anemone in? It says you have a 60, 30, and 55? If the anemone is in the 60 or 55, then 250W is not enough light. If its in the 30 then its plenty of light. Have you fed it since you got it? Try that. Also at night, yes without lunar lights all your corals and anemones will shrink because they cannot photosynthesize. I highly doubt thats a condy anemone. I'm pretty sure that condy's don't host any clownfish whatsoever. If your MH isn't high enough, then an anemone could get burned the same as corals. The thing is tho, they can move, so if the anemone isn't happy where it is, it will move around until it finds its groove. I have lunar lights and my corals hardly shrink up at all. They do a little but not like when I didn't have the lunars. Also, my anemone doesn't always inflate its tentacles around the edges either. I wouldn't think thats much cause for concern, as long as the anemone as a whole isn't looking droopy. Like I said, if you haven't, try feeding it some silversides or something. Good Luck!

Thanks Branden. I think you misread my signature or its mistyped. I have 2 tanks now. 1 is 60 gallons and has 440 watts VHO and the 55 glass has 2 250 watt halide lights plus PC supplements. I had it in the 55 with the halides but that tank is not mature. Its only like 3 months mabey 2.5. The other is old. I moved the anenome and clown late last night to the established tank with the 440 VHO. The anemone seems about the same. What a pain in the you know what trying to capture the existing clown perc that was in the 60. Thought I was gonna be removing reef rock when I have it where I want it. I have learned to chase the fish into the net instead of chase the fish with the net finally. I have fed the anemone some silversided. Plus that little clarki clown feeds her whatever leftover scraps that dont get eaten by the fish.
I will keep an eye on her closely. I checked the Alk PH Cal and Nitrates and they are 9.0 8.2-3 375 and 10 . The nitrates have always run like this in this tank. I think its all the food I feed them. have been cutting back in this tank.

I think I have fooled around with this guy playing musical tanks. That alone could be the stress. I will let it be.
