Is hammertone more reflective and efficient than a smooth polished surface for metal halides?

    Reason I ask:

Well just received my new reflectors... The Lumen Max 3's

I was caught off guard when I opened them up and saw all hammertone for the metal.

As pictured on most sites they have a combination of polished and hammertone.

But I have all hammer tone

Of course gotta add some pics of these beautiful pieces of american craftsmanship :p

yes, hammertone is better. It disperses the light more evenly

Yes. I have the Elite's which are basically the same. They prevent hot spots and are very, very bright. I had soft corals (ricordia, palys) that were in the middle to top of my 75 under 250's with regular polished aluminum reflectors. They had light shock on the sandbed of a deeper tank with the Elite's.

    Awesome reflectors dude. Congrats.

You won't turn back! Now you need some LED supplements :)

What's interesting is I that I have Phoenix 14k bulbs - very blue. 750 watts under sweet reflectors. I turn on a 30-40 watt (approx?) LED strip - and it makes the colors POP. If I turn that off with the halides on the tank looks drab. lol

    Just a thought. :)

Led's are too much for my blood at the moment... cant convince the girlfriend past t5's. She doesnt have a ring on the finger yet... she see my tank as a huge diamond ring that could be on her finger :-X

So Im prolly gonna go with these t5's for supplemental
54W 48" T5 RETROFIT KIT Tek Sunlight Supply - English

Unless I can be convinced otherwise :-/

Wish you were local. I spent $155 on T5's which nearly set my house on fire. I'm selling 2x54 with ballasts, new Geissman bulbs, reflectors, etc. for $100 or best offer. Get the LED's before you're married ;) I knew there was a benefit of being single
