I just got 2 400w Lumen Bright 3 MINI SE pendants to put over my 90 gal.
Is there any guide as to how far above the tank they should hang?

I'm guessing the closer to the water more likely to get salt spray on the shield as well as the obvious heating issues that can cause longer term problems since I don’t have a chiller to combat temp swings cause by the lights.
I don’t have a hood and will probably make my own once the tank is setup and cycling so I want to make sure I’m aware of any potential issues before I design it.:hammer::builder2::goldfish:

PS. yes, i'm taking pics and will start a build thread very soon!;D

If I were hanging these above my tank, I would hang them between 16 and 20 inches. This is just what I would do and only my opinion. These guys are going to be very bright and the tank isn't that big. If you have them any lower, you may have problems with bleaching your corals. Once again, someone may say something different but it's what I would do.

    +1

800W is a lot of light and those reflectors are very good.

    ok,
    thanks for the responses guys!
I got one pendant hung at 14" over the center of the tank to test today and it pretty well lights most of the whole tank. Your right, 800W is way too much now that i'm lookin at what 400W does!

The coralvue ballast says it will also drive the reeflux 250W bulbs. I'm gonna swap out the 400W bulbs in order to spread the light out evenly between the 2 pendants without going blind looking at the tank :sunny:
