Just got a BRS phosphate reactor in today. The pump to run it will be placed in my sump and the unit mounted in my cabinent. Would it make sense to run the return line back to the DT instead of right back into the sump where it came from so that it is not essentially filtering water it may have just filled? The hoses it came with are pretty short so I am guessing they expect you to draw from sump and return to the sump which doesnt seem to make sense to me.

It will all get filtered eventually. i have 2 running this way and they work the same as if you were running it back to the display. your water through your sump is running through faster than it looks. imo it wont change anything using it that way.

It makes sense. The flow rate needed for proper GFO usage is slow enough where your sump should turnover water much, much faster than the reactor will.

Agreed. You are removing phosphate, even in filtered water that is coming to the reactor you haven't "filtered" phosphate, hence the reason we use a reactor.

I have my reactor pump placed close to the overflow drain in the sump, and the reactor outlet placed into the return pump section of my sump.

if you want it that way and it works then by all means do it. that kinda the way i have 1 of mine. but all in all it really doesnt matter where its pumping it out of and putting it back in. make it the easiest way to access the reactor and pump and run it that way.
