So my plate coral has been doing great, but lately I have actually noticed the sketon. The current of my tank blows the plate coral tentacles one way so I little side part of the skeloten s shown. It looks white with some brown on it. Is this normal or is it bad that the skeleton is showing. The coral looks and seems very healthy asside from that. Not sure if this is a problem... Thanks!

Sounds like it could be brown jelly infection.I'm not sure how or if it is treatable so I would wait for someone else to chime in.

    pics?

Contrary to popular opnion plates (fungia) expand often to eat, they also move themselves in doing such and will kill other corals- I had to move mine due to this- he was in my 45 reef- not any more. he is back in the 165 one of 5 coral in the fowlr due to his size.

If his skeleton is showing, in random patterns/patchy, he is likely dying, if this is such, he can posion your tank- this is usually due to under feeding, and or poor water quality and lighting issues. Can he be saved- yes, if not to far gone- but he needs to get good lighting and good water and a direct feeding to bring him back, this will take a few mos. to heal- if possible.

Yes I feed it dried krill once a week...But he looks very healthy other than thesmall part of sketeton showing. It seems as if the current is pushing the tentacles one way, leaving a little part of skeloten showing. It just does not seem that bad to me... What do you mean it can poison my tank? How can I save it? I will have pictures tomorrow...

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
When you feed it do you actually see it eating? Silly I know.

I would try some mysis shrimp, frozen and rinsed.

    What shrimp do you have?

Long tentacle plates are the hardest ones to keep IMO. Is should tolerate mod flow without an issue.

Anything that is actively dying/decomposing tissue creates ammonia. So just watch the ammonia level, I do not see it causing much of an issue though. It is not dying quickly just beginning to recede from the skeleton and yes that is a bad sign but an over night death unless brown jelly disease has indeed set in, but that would be obvious.

Google plate coral receding it may help you narrow something down or compare images.
