Hey I just found out that there is a boil water advisory in my area due to coliform and e. coli. Is it safe to make water with my ro unit for my fish and is the water safe to drink?

It should be pretty safe, at least for fish. It filters out molecules, why not bacteria?

The only thing I would worry about is that RO isn't 100% effective, so you're not guaranteed to get it all out for yourself.

I figured if it was coming with 0 TDS there shouldn't be anything in it so it should be safe. I should really invest in a TDS meter...

You might also need to flush it sooner, bacteria are bigger than molecules so they might clog the filter faster.

I've been told you can't drink RO water. Don't know why, but that's what I've heard. You need some add-on or something for the unit to make drinking water.

RO water is suitable for drinking, its the RO/DI that isn't. I'm not sure of the specifics of what DI resin does that makes it undrinkable though.

lol Idk where you heard this but its not true. I used to live out in the country and of course - we had a well - we didn't get city water. Though you can drink this, you'll be getting all the bacteria from the gound if the well is not dug deep enough. RO water is used as drinking water in this case. We had an RO unit that filtered our water, running it through salt (hahaha), then up to a separate faucet in the kicthen. RO water is more refined than well and/or city water.

Now I'm not sure on the RODI. Whats the DI part mean?
