I got a question about SeaChem salts. Is it true that you have to use their tests to acurately test the parametersof the water?

I would have to say NO.
That sounds very much like a marketing ploy to me.
test kits are designed to measure certain chemical compounds - and as far as I know ammonia is ammonia and nitrates are nitrates

Thats what I thought but some one told me that their salt has some chemicals in it that interfere with other test kits.

Are we talking about their new salt mix? Seachem Salinity Salt Mix.
I have not heard anything about it affecting test kit results from different manufactures, but it seems to me that would be corprate suicide unless the there is some hobby altering reason like instant success for all new hobbyists.

No I was referring to their previous salts the reef and marine salt I think they are called. So I received really dumb information I guess. I was wondering why when I tried for searching anything pertaining to this I couldn't find a single mention of something similar.

Maybe not so dumb. I think they have something in their mix that gives a false high ALK. reading. I did not know that their test kits could give an accurate reading though.

If anyone knows for sure, please post as this is the only thing that prevents me from useing Seachems salt.

It would help if you posted where you got this info about a false ALK reading. I'm using their new Salinity product and have not registered anything of the sort. We use elos, salifert and api when testing a new salt.

You can start with this one. I have read other threads regarding the Levels of borate and it throwing the alk tests off.
