I just bought a skimmer, and put it together. I hooked it up and it works just fine. I turned the valve knob and to many bubble came out and the collection cup started to over flow onto my floor:-[ . I quickly put the valve to a low amount of bubbles and it works fine, but now i am paranoid that the same thing could happen when i'm not home and mess up my floor as weel as the tank.
Can the amount of bubbles change due to variations, like evaporation or something? Is it possible that something could change and make my skimmer start overflowing when im not looking, and what can i do to make sure it dont overflow no more, besides not change the flow through the valve? Thanx for any replys, -SolowKoe

That happened to me many times at work...I don't think that it would happen again as long as the valve is properly regulated to the desired amount of air flow. Through my experiences, evaporation isn't usually a factor affecting protein skimmers as long as the water level isn't too low where the pump runs dry. Just keep the air flow at a level where foam just reaches the cap of the protein skimmer and you should be just fine.

With a new skimmer it needs to break in and all skimmers break in differently. I would give it a few days and then you will have a better feel for it. However be careful when adding different supplements. Some will get your skimmer collection cup filling very rapidly.

I agree with all above. You shouldn't worry most often if the bubble amount changes it is decrease not an increase.
