This SPS has been in my tank for about 3 months now. It has not grown much at all, save for it's base.

What you see first is that the coral tip has bleached, it's not just the lighting, it's actually white.

Secondly, you can see that the tentacles are extended.

So what does this mean? Is the coral desperately trying to survive by extending it's tentacles? Or is the coral doing okay, and it simply turned white because I doesn't have the proper lighting? (I only have a pair of 39w ATI's)

    Thank you, as always.

Are you sure the white isn't new growth? the base is encrusting, the polyps are feeding its growth. Congrats ;)IMO

Well thank you for that info.

Goes to show that just when I think I know something, that's when I'm usually wrong!

    (I'm not sure of anything)

Normal growth for SPS. Some will encrust for a while and then grow on the branches and repeat the process. Other will grow branches and hardly encrust. Some will do both at the same time.

Yea, to me it seems like the skeletan is growing faster than the coral itself! lol!

I guess I was completely wrong. I just assumed it was dying because my system is really not setup for SPS. The proper lighting isn't there, and I don't add any kind of supplements other than what comes in my high quality salt mix.

You guys always have good news. ;)
