Looking at making a purchase of multiple corals.

I'm trying to decide on what to get in part by my placement for when the particular corals get older, bigger; so that there will be plenty of space.

So in general, what kind of space would a <blank> need? I know to keep these away from sweeper tentacles and the like.

    • Favia. I am picturing these to grow in size similar to the acans
    • Blastomussa. I am picturing this to get about the size of a softball.

I just mean within about two years time starting from one or two polyps.

I have no LFS that actually carries anything other than anemones, mushrooms, and the occasional frogspawn. So I haven't seen these in person to really understand how they grown. I am under the impression they will grow much like an acan. But I have no idea on how much diameter/circumference of space they need to grow into.

Thanks for any sizing tips :)

my suggestion is just get 'em small or preferably as frags and then you can frag 'em again later.

Well, the more you feed them, the faster they will grow. Favia and acans do grow similarly as do Blastomussa, though it will take a long time to grow to the size of a softball.

Your growth rates are going to entirely depend on your tank as well. Some pieces grow well for some and not so well for others.
That said I've heard that acans are faster growers than favia, and favia are relatively slow growers, generally speaking anyway. No clue about blastos.

I would just give them a few inches to encrust on to rock. If you can, try and get them just to cover one piece of rock so you can take it out and frag it down if you need to or sell/trade it etc.

    That's what I would do/am doing anyway. :)
