Does anyone know if there is a correlation between feedings and tentacle length of the heads? I've seen some duncans that look exactly like mine but have tentacles that are three times as long. I didn't know if there was a correlation between spot feedings resulting in shorter tentacles or not.

I don't have Duncans but the answer could be similar to zoas and palys. The higher the flow the longer the tentacles.

Huh, didn't think about that being a factor.

My duncan has really long tentacles on one side, and tiny ones on the other. The side that's getting hit with flow has the tiny tentacles. When I first got it, it was long tentacles all the way around.

I feed my Duncans very well, and the heads do grow much larger. I haven't noticed flow to be as much of a factor, but it could be. I took this picture last week as a size reference. The Leopard Wrasse on the right is about 1 1/4", and the male Mandarin is a little larger. A friend of mine has the same frag but does not target feed his. They are much smaller.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Duncans love to be feed and mine do much better when feed. Mine do not like a strong current and have done better lower in the tank. The feeding response is very noticeable in my duncans. Mine are sensitive to higher SG as well, anything higher than 1.026 and they do not extend as well. It is one of my all time favorite corals, nice color, easy, and repoduces readily when fed regularly.;D

Ive seen it to be the opposite.

Ive kept my duncans at a lfs in holding for a couple weeks in a really low flow tank... and they opened up quite large compared to my tank with much more flow.

Lps in general.... open up larger with low flow compared to high flow.

Mine are at the bottom in a modorate variable flow. They've been growing steadily since I got them and have a quick feeding response. Overall they're doing great, I was just curious about what other people thought.
