    Hello everyone!

I have been using a MP-10 on my 50 gallon tank for the last year. It is often on full blast in short-pulse mode to create a wave. Unfortunately it is quite noisy. The MP-10 is lined up correctly, this is just how it sounds.

I was wondering if I used an MP-40 at a low power setting instead, if noise would be reduced in comparison to my MP10 at full blast?

Hoping for a yes! If not, I will have to look at other options. Can't stand the noise any longer.

ya it definitely would be a lot quieter, think of how your mp10 sounds when at 30-40%...almost dead quiet.

I think its such a noticable noise because you are using the pulse mode. I run mine in reefcrest and cant say that i really notice it unless it gets on full blast which is only for a few seconds.

When mine are lined up properly they are only noticably loud when run 75%-100%

depends what you have in your tank but the 40 would give you a wider water flow. My suggestion would be run the 40 at 50-60% and run the 10 at 75%. My 40 makes a noise when running at high speeds in pulse mode. Fairly common from what I hear.

You would definitely see a decrease in noise. I would say that the MP10, MP40 and MP60 all put out about the same amount of noise in relation to the percentage they are run at. If you think of it this way, the MP10 puts out about 1,500 gph while the MP40 puts out over 3,000. This means you could get about the same water movement with the MP40 at 50% as the MP10 at 100%. That should cut your noise down to close to half.
