Is it common for detritus to build up in calcium reactors? What can I do to keep it out? Would a form filter over the feed do it?

I dont usually have that problem. is your intake at an area that has a lot of junk near it? or is the recirculating pump on your reactor very small?

The pump is a mj1200 and its an mrc2 dual chamber reactor. The pump is in the chamber of my sump where my Skimmer is. There isn't to much in the way of crap on the bottom but my over flow does empty into that chamber

I think that recirc pump is too small. maybe try a mag2 or mag3. Now we are talking about the re-circulation pump and not the feed pump correct?

Feed pump is maxi jet recirc is mag 3 I believe but the recirc is just on chamber 1 and chamber two is where the majority of the detritus is.

well that would explain it then. the low flow is allowing it to build up... I am not sure what a good fix for the second chamber would be though? not really practical to put in a pump... :-/

    Mag 3 lol
My geo reactor came with an ehiem which also works well. I would stick with one of those two brands though.

I also feed my reactor with an MJ powerhead and it is more than sufficient to keep up with the drip rate which is all it has to do. The recirculation pump is what needs to be sized larger to keep the CO2 in solution around the media.

Move your feed pump. MJ 1200, to the return section so you get the cleanest possible water supply and add a sponge prefilter if it is necessary. I don't have one on my reactor now but I did have when the tank had more organics present that would cause problems. Just remember to clean it as needed.

I had just checked and its only a mag 2. When I replace should I replace it with a 3 or 2.
