have the heater kick on... he should have one of those.

fans shouldnt that much of a cooling force that would keep heater on too long...

Fans should just be blowing across the surface to move heat away from tank.... the fans arent "cooling" the water.

    His words, not mine.

His tank was overheating, but after adding the fan, cooled too much for his comfort.

try my idea. if it helps it didn't cost anything. i wouldn't think 4 degrees would be that big of a problem. like someone said earlier the ocean probably swings that much, but try running the fan on intervels and it should keep you constant.

Thanks for all the advice, guys. The truth is that 4 degrees isn't terrible, but I'd prefer to keep it tighter at no more than a 2 degree swing. I could have the heater kick in, but it seems counter-intuitive to me to have both heating and cooling running at the same time. (Right now my heater is off, since my tank is never overly cool unless the fans have been off for too long).

Ok, so if nobody knows of a way to DIY an underwater thermostat controller, I guess the best idea I've heard is to have the fan go on and off on the timer at certain intervals.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy
