Hello, just a quick question about dkh, my perimeters of Cal are around 500 ppm, Mg close to 1600 ppm but my dkh is at 7.0 ppm and i have checked them twice to make sure that it was not a false reading, what should I do. and is this even possibly to have high Cal,Mg, and dkh be low?

that is what I am facing right now. my Ca is over 500 per Salifert but my alk is right where ti needs to be. I have had to turn off all Co2 in my CaRx so that it stops dosing alk and Ca. I am manually dosing alkalinity to maintain it untill the calcium goes down due to coral consumption.

what are you using to dose alkalinity?

Your alk. doesn't seem that low. Have you tried bringing it up? If your mag and calc. are truly that high, it shouldn't be difficult getting your alk up.

you ought to bring your alk up to 10-12 for corals How big is your tank? you need to add some type of carbonate. I never have to dose mg or ca, but always have to add carbonate.

I personally use the carbonate part of this

Bring your alk up to 10-12 as mentioned. I like seachems aquavitro line.

My dKh hangs around 7-9 (seawater is roughly 7) with tremendous growth in my SPS. You just have to find what works best in your tank. Whatever you decide on, raise it slowly. I had my tank in the 10-12 range before too.

IME a tank will naturally find a balance and want to stay there. Fighting it to enforce your own arbitrary parameter values is a losing battle (to exaggerate)

Some good ranges have been posted, so won't rehash that. But the point is so long as each of the main three are stable at some number in that range, accept that number as what your tank wants to be at.

You don't have to do above of course, IME I found it easier and less stressful to me and my corals.

    I agree with Peredhil 100%
that being said I've always found my ALK is consumed a lot faster than CA
