Question on MagFloat

    so i have a magfloat that i bought for my puffers tank and i want to use it on the 46. My question is, i noticed the mag has a rough piece and a smooth piece? which one goes in the water?

    The rought piece goes into the water smooth on the outside of the tank.

    ok, maybe thats why i always got scratches on my tank on my 20 gallon. i think i had the rough piece on the outside and the smooth on the inside

    The rough side is meant to scrape the algae off, the smooth side is supposed to glide across the outside surface.

    Also, be aware that they make them for glass or acrylic. Make sure you purchase the one that's right for your tank.

    its been a while since i've looked at the magfloat but i think its for glass, whhich both tanks are glass :)

    Also be careful around the sand bed. You don't want any sand to get into the pad as it will scratch the tank. As careful as I am my 90 is getting quite a few scratches, but then the tanks 5 years old..I think..maybe a wee bit older.

    also small feather dusters and what not with calcium will grow on the pad, that will cause scratches

    Just take it out of the water if you notice any sand on the inside pad and wash it off or it will scratch the glass.

    On my pad (which is not a Mag-Float brand, but similar I believe), it is the felt side (feels like velvet) that is the dry side.
