question on refugium

    whats a refugium do just wondering. if u got bio ball filter system do u need refugium?

    well its debateable if you need either one of those depend upon how you set up your tank but i believe a refugium would compliment a bioball filter. a fuge has plants in it to filter water, it would help remove nitrates that the bioballs produce.

    Refugium is a separate tank of water that shares water with the main tank. It is a refuge (hence the name) for algae, copepods live sand etc.
    It adds more volume to your system-making it more stable. The algae uses the nitrates to grow thus reducing the need for bio balls. I just got done adding my diy fuge and removing my bio balls.
