question on tank cycling

    Hi guys i have a 65 g tank and 35 g sump. I put my live rock and sand. i have my powerhead and heaters working. I am starting this tank. I had everything running yesterday. im running my return pump and was wondering if i should run my protein skimmer during the cycle. I was also wondering how to tell if my cycle is starting. My parameters for salinitty is 1.023-1.024 and tempeture 75.5 F. I was wondering should i run my t5 light fixture during the cycle.

    Yep, test away and be patient LOL. Keep a log of everything you do from day one including water conditions. Read my post a couple down from you, mines been cycling for 5 days now and still havent seen any levels elevate, excepts that darn phosphate:-((
    As for the skimmer, some say yes, some say no. I'll let others go into that for you.
    But hey i'm still a newbie, just trying to give back where so many have gave to me!!!

    trio cycle buddies, mines also cycling right now. Its been 2 years since my last set up, so I feel like Im beginner again lol. Mines been a week so far, but havent tested anything yet. Im starting to see like little brown diatoms, but they are so small maybe like half cm dot, not even sure if its diatom because its too early for diatoms i think

    I do, just to have reference points to go back and look at and to keep up with my cycle. Everybody's cycle is diiferent, depending on if your using true "cured LR" some have reported they dont see a cycle at all.
    Ok, can anybody tell me whats up with the karma scale, it's definitly not a sinoirity thing LOL

    haha we have A LOT of cycling going on, mines cycling too lol its the third day since mines been running. I have two mollies in there now. Karma is just like if you post helpful things and people click the little green thumbs up because it was helpful to them it gives them good karma
