I am fairly new to s/w, tank has been running for about 6 weeks now with 70 lbs l/r, live sand, wet dry w/bio balls, getting brown alge on sand, but I am also getting small white dots on the glass, don't know what those are. They look like salt water that has dried up and left salt deposits on glass. Can post pictures if needed

Ok Brown Algae is Diatom--a good sign that you are nearing the end of your cycle. Dont do anything, the brown algae will clear up in a month or so if you have a good clean up crew and you are using ro/di water. Also make sure all your params are good. The white spots are probably sp worms..They are not harmful. They are filter feeders. You can scrape them off if you want or leave them there--most people have them.

The white dots I believe are a type of worm, I just scrape them off.

Ok thanks. What is an SP Worm? What it looks like to me is water, that has evaporated and left salt deposits on the glass about the size of a pencil lead.

When you say looks like evaporated water do you mean a white dot with little like legs around the dot

That's what they look like, are they under water or out of the water? Salt usually leaves a "crust" when is dries out.

No just a white dot with no legs, they are under water, they will scrape right off then a few days later I get them again.

Thanks Robman, they do not look like the link you sent, but they are about the size of the tip of pencil lead
